Ocean Surface Current Analysis - Real Time
There are only two operational current measuring instrument sets installed in the region at the present time. A profiling acoustic Doppler instrument is installed aboard CarICOOS Data Buoy A located SE of the island of Caja de Muertos off the south coast of Puerto Rico (see the tab labelled CarICOOS Buoy). In addition, two high frequency radio stations emplaced on the west coast of PR allow visualization of surface currents in the southeastern quadrant of the Mona Passage (see" Surface Currents HF Radar Currents" under the "Current"s tab). To complement this data we here present satellite- and model-based synoptic products for the region. The OSCAR product (Ocean Surface Current Analysis- Real Time, courtesy of the NOAA PMEL laboratories) considers wind forcing in addition to the satellite altimetry. For more information regarding OSCAR, read here.
